The 2007/08 was another exciting year for sports in the Triangle.
We have much to celebrate, so let us take a moment to refl ect on our

The Top 10 Triangle sports Moments showcased some of the best sports highlights in the nation. Current Texas ranger Josh Hamilton was honored as the sports Person of the Year, and retired Carolina Hurricane Ron Francis received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Appalachian state University head football coach and threetime national champion Jerry Moore headlined the event.
The Mid-eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) basketball Tournament returned to the Triangle in March for a third year and continued to grow. Also in March, the NCAA Men’s basketball Tournament returned to the area for the fi rst time since 2004. The sports Council partnered with N.C. state University, the Greater raleigh Convention and Visitors bureau, Centennial Authority, RDU International Airport and the City of raleigh to develop a community welcome and hospitality program for NCAA offi cials, student-athletes, media and fans.
The Greater raleigh sports Council continued its tradition of hosting excellent events for its members. The February Quarterly Meeting allowed members the opportunity to hear from Carolina RailHawks general manager Chris economides and head coaches Scott Schweitzer and Jay Howell. Members attending the May Quarterly Meeting met UNC head football coach butch Davis. The July luncheon featured MLB World Series Champion manager Jack McKeon and the opportunity to interact with the Class AA Southern League All-star players. eleven-time PGA Tour winner scott Hoch entertained members at the september Quarterly Meeting at the SAS Championship.
We also offered support to several of the local sports franchises. The Nights Out with the Durham Bulls, Carolina Mudcats and Carolina RailHawks continued to be popular events for members, their families and friends. In addition, the sports Council hosted a Carolina Hurricanes Night Out with a reception attended by forward Patrick Eaves.
The 2008/2009 year is sure to be another great one for sports in the Triangle. Your dedication to the Greater Raleigh Sports Council ensures the development and success of the market as a leading site for sports. We continue to make the region a better place to live, work and play. We extend our sincere thanks to our members, sponsors and volunteers for your continued support.
